My marriage seemed perfect from the outside looking in.
People envied me. They wanted my life, wanted to be me.
Mrs Alejandra Gambino.
Wife of Dino Gambino. Daughter of Eduardo Castillo.
Respected. Loved. Mob royalty.
They had no idea of the horrors that lurked behind closed doors.
They didn't know I was at the lowest point a person could reach.
Enter Julius Carter.
Aloof, handsome, blue-eyed Julius Carter.
He saved me.
I screwed him over.
Now everybody was after me. My life was forfeit.
It was only a matter of time. I was a dead woman walking.
The question was, who would get to me first?
OMG, I have waited for the book for what seems like an eternity. I appreciate that Belle Aurora took her time and was insistent on delivering Julius and Ana’s story to its full potential. I honestly don’t know if you can read Dirty as a standalone. I guess you could but trust me when I say that you NEED to read RAW first to get Twitch and Lexi’s story because Twitch is all up in this book! TWITCH IS ALL UP IN THIS BOOK! Ok, now that I shouted that, let’s get to the rest of this review and focus on Julius and Ana. Until I start daydreaming about Twitch again. He’ll keep coming up.
Julius is a major enforcer in the underworld. He’s powerful, resourceful and absolutely deadly. He lives his life as drama free as he can. Of course, his job doesn’t really help with that. He’s never taken the time to really find a woman. In fact, he doesn’t want to bother with that at all. He’s content on making as much money as he can so he can support the family that he would do absolutely anything for. He lost his best friend since he was young and has spent the past 4 years with a feisty sidekick named Lin who is a deadly killer in name brand stilettos and fire red lipstick. When his job brings him into Ana’s world, he quickly realizes that he can’t live without her. Unfortunately he doesn’t see a way where they can be together and she has jeopardize his reputation.
Ana grew up as a mafia princess but when she was 18, she was forced to marry for the family. Unfortunately her fairytale wedding and life quickly turns violent and she becomes a shell of the girl she’s always been. After years of this she’s finally broken free but it comes at a major expense and the one person that is protecting her right now has made it very clear that he won’t always protect her. Unless she can provide him with reasons on why he should. Will she be able to open up not only her heart but her deep secrets to a man who claims just how dangerous he is to her?
Once again, this story is raw, gritty and dark. There certainly aren’t any unicorn and rainbows. Unless they are bloody and disturbed. Ok, not sure why I felt I needed to add that but I’ll stick with it. Julius proves to be an amazing man to his sister and their family but when Ana comes into his life, he makes it clear that he isn’t a kind man. He has no problem telling her that he will slit her throat but at the same time he does little things to help her or just because. You can quickly pick up on how soft he really is for Ana. You get to see the journey of how he falls for her.
“She had a light in her eyes that called to the darkness in mine, her very presence calming.”
There are so many twists and turns in this story and everyone is somehow linked in the underworld together. There are a couple of surprises that will keep you wanting to know more. Plus, there is Twitch. He has a little bit of his own side story that ultimately links up to everything else. I will admit that although I absolutely love Julius and Angie’s story, I would easily get distracted with Twitch and would start aching to get more of him and Lexi. I hope that if you find yourself drifting towards Twitch like me, that you recognize and make sure you focus back on Julius and Angie. Their story is ugly and messy and heartbreakingly beautiful. You want to full experience.
Overall, I could’t and didn’t get enough of this book. It balances out with a new love story that is just as dark and twisted as Twitch and Lexi but it still gives us more of the man that we all grew to love in RAW. Well done, Belle and I can’t wait for book three that takes us back to Twitch. I just hope that Julius and Angie still play a huge part and we get one big happy family! 🙂
