From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes a new story in her Eagle Elite series…

Every family has rules, the mafia just has more....Do not speak to the bosses unless spoken to. Do not make eye contact unless you want to die. And above all else, do not fall in love. Renee Cassani's future is set.Her betrothal is set. Her life, after nannying for the five families for the summer, is setSomebody should have told Vic Colezan that. He's a man who doesn't take no for an answer. And he only wants one thing. Her. Somebody should have told Renee that her bodyguard needed as much discipline as the kids she was nannying. Good thing Vic has a firm hand.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

“I watched the grandfather clock in that room. I watched it with a tight chest. And slowly, as the seconds ticked by, I felt my body go rigid. I forced my smile away, purposefully shoved memories of her taste out of my brain, and clung to only one last thought before it chimed. The way she said my name. I was keeping that one. Everything else…I would forget. But I would remember the one time-someone made me feel less like a monster-more like a human, just by the way my name fell from her lips.”

Review~

I love all the guys from these books, but Chase was and always will be my favorite guy. Vic though, man he has shot up to the top of the list, second only to Chase. I loved him so much. The way he struggled with staying true to oath and wanting something in this life for himself pulled on my heartstrings so hard.

“I sold everything. Including my soul to the families. And now, now, I hated that a part of me..wanted it back. Because of a girl who let me hold her when she was scared. And who let me kiss her tears away.”

If you haven’t read this series this is a great book to give it a try, see if you like it. There is already 9 books and that’s a big commitment to catch up on. Give this one a try, then you’ll see why this one gave me all the feels. It would of course mean more if you already read the series because the amount of my Chase in this book made my heart smile.

“I was watching you,” came a familiar voice. “And I realized once again that if all I was allowed in this life-was was the honor of watching you, I would take it.”

I read a lot of mafia romance books because they usually are a bit darker and I like that. I have always had a thing for the mafia, whether it’s documentaries, books, movies, etc. It’s just always fascinated me. Some of those books do an ok job, some are good, and then some just excel at it. That’s true with anything though. Rachel does an exceptional job with writing this stuff. The series just keeps getting better with every book. That’s not always the case when a series goes on this long. She just has a way that keeps it fresh, interesting, and intense. She will draw a full range of emotions from you all while entertaining you along the way. I can’t wait for more from this series.

“I think your taste is the only thing that could both save a sinner-and cause more sin.”

“She pulled out her phone and smiled. I wanted her to look at me that way. Not her iPhone….She left me in that doorway. Staring at a bed I wanted to use. Wishing for a life I couldn’t have. And wondering how much I would have to sacrifice to take what felt like the first real want I’d ever had in my existence. Her.”
