We all have one.
That magic number that will get us to agree to do anything, be anything.
Don’t sit on your gold-plated high horse and say you don’t because you do. Everyone does. Each of us has something we covet enough that we’d sell ourselves to have it.
What’s my tipping point, you ask? Apparently a cool quarter mil will do the trick.
What does one do for 250 large, you wonder? Anything the infamous, gorgeous playboy of Seattle wants. For the next four months I’ll be Shaw Mercer’s arm candy, his beck and call girl, his faux girlfriend. I’ll be his to command, mold, push and pull in any direction he sees fit.
I’ll fight falling into bed with him. I’ll fight falling in love with him even harder. I’ll fail at both. And when my past and present collide in the most unexpected of ways, I’ll learn that while one man’s love for me has never died, the only man’s love I really want will never be mine.
This is now my second K.L. Kreig book and it certainly won’t be my last. I will admit that when I read the blurb, I felt like it was a story that been told a lot lately so I wasn’t sure how this one would stand out from the others. I wouldn’t say that there was anything unique that made it stand out but it was well written with two extremely likable main characters that kept me rooting for them from the start.
Willow Blackwell is in an impossible situation. Her mother has Alzheimer’s and it’s up to Willow to not only pay for her care but to pay for the upkeep of her childhood home. Her narration job isn’t cutting it so she is an escort to one of the most elite escorting services. She provides companionship that includes going to many functions. Her clients know her limits since the process is extremely vetted.
One one particular bad day, she is rear-ended by a complete jerk who tries to pin the accident on her. She was already on the verge of a breakdown due to her mother’s illness. Yet, there’s something about this jerk that still calls to her. She can’t seem to get him out of her mind.
Shaw Mercer is the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company and the son of the current Mayor of Seattle. He’s noted as Seattle’s hottest and most eligible bachelor that just happens to love women. So when the Mayoral race begins, his father asks him to settle down for a while to calm his image. When his best friend suggests and escort and puts Willow’s picture in front of him, it’s the calling he needed. He hasn’t stopped thinking about her since the accident and he couldn’t be more thrilled to have her for the next four months.
As Willow and Shaw begin this process, they tell each other that it is strictly business. They both know that they will be separating in four months. Shaw thinks he is incapable of anything more than a business transaction and Willow isn’t willing to put her heart on the line. Of course, the lines start to blur and they start getting feelings for each other. There is definitely a push and pull. Will they say screw the contract and discover true love or will they remain professional and separate at the end?
“I’ll never be the same. This beautiful, stubborn golden sprite will be my downfall.”
I absolutely loved Willow’s personality. She’s such a spitfire and has the best wit I’ve seen from a heroine in a long time. She’s also extremely loyal with a huge heart. Add that with her sass and never ending comebacks and she becomes one of my most likable female characters. She’s perfect for Shaw. She calls him out on his crap and she keeps him on his toes. And once she starts to show her vulnerability to Shaw, it’s so real and honest that you can’t help but always want to be there for her.
Shaw is one sexy alpha with an insanely hot mouth. The things he says and does to Willow will make you melt. He’s loyal to his family and friends and also has a huge heart. He just doesn’t share it with anyone else. Until now. Watching him fall for Willow was extremely fun. Especially since there were a lot of times where he was ready to own up to his feelings before she was. Together, these two just worked.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. There are a few twists and some things that connect back together and by the end of the book I was left wanting more. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one and see what happens.
