Review

I enjoyed this debut novel by Annie Anderson. She emerges us into a supernatural world that is exciting, full of angst, yet hopeful.

This story follows Aurelia (Ari) Constantine, who has been running from her biggest enemy since the 1800s. She has spent her years trying to stay untraceable, enjoying her one true passion. Art. Unfortunately her past has not only caused her to suffer those she loves but it has bound her to a man that she hates.

Rhys Stevens has loved Ari for as long as he can remember. He had to step back away from her and watch her from a distance. Until one very controlling, very powerful Phoenix does everything in her power to bind their life together. Without giving anything away, she’s out for blood for a very specific reason.

I absolutely loved Ari. She’s strong, witty and takes zero crap. One one hand, her abilities make her “hotheaded”, yet she can also be imperturbable.

“Can we discuss this shit another time? Say when are aren’t in a serious time crunch of impending death? Because I gotta say, this ‘We’re Gonne Die’ bullshit is getting old.”

Rhys. Poor Rhys. In love with someone for so long and having to suffer her hatred. You can’t help but root for him. He does everything in his power to protect Ari.

I also enjoyed Eden. She’s a princess firecracker. I might have made that up but it works for her. She’s tiny, yet powerful. She’s loyal to both Rhys and Ari. She’s hot and cold and her banter with Ari is awesome.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the “clan.”
