What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.
Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece. I’d be lost if it weren’t for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who’s slowly finding her way into my cynical heart.
I keep reminding myself that I can’t fall for someone when we don’t have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.
When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel—six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos—I’m not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me.
What I don’t count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won’t mean anything, that I won’t fall in love.
I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep.
This was my first book by Lex Martin. I purchased Dearest Clementine and Finding Dandelion but haven’t read them yet. (*Hangs head in shame*) Now I realize what I have been missing out and I’m so grateful that I got to read Shameless.
This is a story about Brady and Katherine. Two people who have just suffered tragedy and are thrown together to make sense of the pieces that are left behind.
Brady looks like your typical hot “bad” boy, covered in tattoos. Add in his Harley and he suddenly becomes that lustful biker boy.
“He’s sitting with his elbows pressed against his wide-spread knees, glaring out the window, looking like a Sons of Anarchy character about to kick someone’s ass.”
Umm…yes, please! One top of his sheer hot factor, we find out just how awesome Brady really is. He’s loyal, a hard worker, and loves his family. He does whatever it takes to make sure his family is taken care of. When he becomes guardian of his niece, Isabelle (Izzy), we really see how loving this rough exterior guy is really all about.
“I’ve never believed love at first sight, but that’s the only way to describe it. Because I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I’ll do whatever I have to do to protect my niece.”
This is pretty much where I shamelessly swooned. It’s been a long time since I’ve fallen for a sweet hero as fast as I did with Brady. Every time he looked at either Izzy or Katherine, my heart swelled more for him. He’s perfect for Katherine.
Katherine is a friend of the family that Brady lost and has been helping with the family business. Although, he didn’t know anything about her until now. She is so easy to connect with. She’s great with Izzy and has a heart the size of Texas. She has this sexy librarian look to her that just draws the guys in. Plus she’s actually quite funny, which only adds to her appeal.
“I can get a lost of mileage out of a good boner.” We look at each other and then crack up.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and kept me interested. The only thing that kept my rating down just a little was how fast the love came. I actually appreciate that it mirrors the love of the family that Brady lost but it’s just a personal preference for me. I also wanted them to hook up a little faster. It sounds like I’m all about the hookups and against love. Haha, that isn’t the case at all. I can’t wait to read her other books. I’m kicking myself for not reading them earlier.
