Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).

And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.

Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.

But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.

Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

My first read from Tucker was He Will Be My Ruin and I absolutely loved it.  I knew from the moment I started reading it that I jut enjoyed her writing style and would read more from her. So when I saw Until It Fades, I gobbled it up. While I haven’t read all her books, it’s clear that Until It Fades, is different for her and I’m actually glad she did it. It’s lighter-hearted and full of love and ultimately happiness. Sure, there are struggles but the resounding picture is the epitome of love.

From the age of seventeen, Catherine’s life has been turned upside down. A scandal marks her as the town’s outcast. She’s now a waitress at a diner and doing everything she can to give her little girl everything that she needs. When a selfless act of bravery lands one of the most coveted NHL players in her life, ultimately everything changes.

Here’s what I enjoyed the most about this book. Sure, some might call it cliché and predictable if you look at the overall outline but there’s so much more to it. Catherine’s struggles are real and her determination and stubbornness is one to be admired. She’s just very relatable and easy to like. And while Brett has had a much easier time in his life, he’s certainly got a bit of his own scares but ultimately he’s just a good guy with good morals and a huge heart. When he’s with Brenna, Catherine’s daughter, I pretty much swooned.

I enjoyed every character in the book. Even the ones that we love to hate. I think they everyone had their own role and it tied in perfectly with everything. The relationships between friends, family and even townspeople are both saddening and wonderful. There are ups and downs but ultimately, love win.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I read it in almost one sitting and didn’t want to put it down. I was just drawn to all of it. If you are looking for a light-hearted (ish) book with a cinderella (ish) feel and love conquers all, then this is the book for you! Just remember there’s more to it then that overall theme that you might think you are getting. Well done, Tucker. I can’t wait to see what you do next.
